Bad karma. I also prefer having a deterministic plan to just hoping for things to work out.

Speaking of things working out, we're actually moving into a 3+ bedroom unit in a cohousing community in Colorado right now, so I don't have to wait years at all. The work system there is much more in line with what I'm comfortable with. There are still a few things that keep me motivated to work on the longer term project, but it would not be at all bad if I ended up staying at the new community long term. At least as far as I've been able to ascertain on a couple of visits.

I've been VERY open with my current community about my thoughts about the work system. You can assume that everyone in the community who cares about the work system knows what my thoughts are on the topic--or I wouldn't have posted them here. I have expressed them publicly in meetings, and privately to whoever asks. There are people in my current community that believe in the current system, and nothing I say can change their minds. A minority of people there actually agree with me, but the majority is quite sick of hearing my opinion, I'm sure.

The way I see it, my vision/values/goals of cohousing differs from the majority's here. And I feel that, under those circumstances, the ethical thing for me to do is not to try to change their minds and stand in the way of what they want, but to move out and give them the opportunity to find someone who is better aligned with the community's vision/values/goals. And that's what I'm doing.Tim Menschhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05419661697275905540noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7002710.post-54527033422751591182007-05-23T05:23:00.000-06:002007-05-23T05:23:00.000-06:00So let me get this straight. You can't wait until a larger unit opens up but you're prepared to build your own which will take years?

Can I assume you have already tried speaking with your neighbors so that they know the work requirements (or the discussions about them) are pushing you away?Jeanne Goodmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02028763533632320227noreply@blogger.com
